Mahidpur Fort stands on the edge of the historic town of Mahidpur, overlooking the river and the surrounding settlement that has grown around it over centuries. Like many forts across central India, it carries layers of history — moments of defence, governance, and everyday life that have gradually shaped the structure we see today.

Our work here focused on understanding these layers before deciding how the fort should be cared for. The process began with careful documentation of the surviving walls, bastions, and internal spaces, alongside conversations with local stakeholders who continue to see the fort as part of the town’s shared identity.

The project was approached as a process of stabilisation and renewal. Structural repairs, masonry consolidation, and landscape improvements were carried out with the intention of strengthening the fort while allowing its historic character to remain clearly visible.

Rather than restoring the structure to a single moment in time, the effort was to support the fort as a living landmark — one that continues to anchor the memory of the town while becoming accessible and meaningful for present-day visitors.

Today, Mahidpur Fort remains a familiar presence on the town’s skyline, its repaired fabric quietly carrying forward the story of the place and the people connected to it.
